I teach at a so-called public university, but what is really public about the education we provide? Professors are not even allowed to let someone drop by and sit in on one of their classes for free - even auditors must pay tuition. So I blog because I take the PUBLIC part of "public university" seriously - it is my way of giving something back to the people of Oklahoma who pay my salary. So, I blog at Bestiaria Latina. I also keep all my course materials online (MythFolklore.net), freely available on the open Internet, NOT behind the password-protected wall of our course management system. Wouldn't it be fabulous if the faculty at other public universities did the same? What a resource for the people of this country and all around the world! :-)

Maybe I should do that - I'm not a historian, but it is an open-ended question after all (academics, not just historians)... Thanks! :-)

Am I the only AWB who sees comments that need approval?

There is nothing in the approval queue at the moment. But yes I think all members are seeing comments from non-members. Should I change this setting?
