For decades scholarly understanding of the origin and development of early writing systems in general was held back by the exclusion of Mesoamerican writing. Major advances in the decipherment and attendant understanding of Mayan and other Mesoamerican writing systems are now several decades old, and it can no longer be claimed that Mesoamerican scripts were "not really writing." Mayan and perhaps other Mesoamerican writing could record anything that could be said in those languages. This was writing, not just picture language.<BR/><BR/>At least they included one paper by a Mesoamerican epigrapher(Gordon Whittaker) that compared the Shang script to several Mesoamerican scripts. But it appears that the old bias against New World cultures is still alive and well.Michael E. Smithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03942595266312225661noreply@blogger.com
